Google, according to eWeek, is preparing to make a more aggressive push into the enterprise technology space by transforming some of its consumer products into things which will meet the needs of businesses.

Google's new Google Enterprise manager Dave Girouard has been tasked with making the leap happen.

"My goal is to move the technology we develop for our Web site to the enterprise and get it in front of people at their desktops," Girouard said in Mountain View, Calif.

Part of the challenge Girouard sees in the enterprise technologies web industry is the infrequent updates provided to existing products and the fact many of them are difficult to maintain.

"Many companies have a dozen or more IT staffers who deal just with search. Our belief is that a lot of that time is wasted and would be unnecessary if only the software was better. Our system typically requires a small fraction of one person's time to maintain."
