Rugles noticed yesterday that Google recently changed their spell checker search routine to have it start offering more specific search phrases when a more generic one is searched upon. In the example given, a search on "shoes" turned up options including "running shoes" and "rockport shoes". Clicking on "running shoes" narrowed things down further to "nike running shoes", "new balance running shoes" and others.

1. Many people set their home page to a more attractive home page, that also serves an immediate purpose. Yahoo.com provides you with the search ability and the website is more pleasing to the "eye". Similar to magazine companies, much R&D is dedicated to the colors and "white space" that is utilized. I think that if Google filled up some of their white space with some apealing links and banners, then more individuals would set their home page to Google. The mixture of a free e-mail account would also compliment the choice of a home page. Lets face it...the market niche of being one of the best search engines does not target emotional driven consumers who do not appreciate state of the art technology. What is going on here? Google needs to tap this market...if I were a consultant or someone on the board of directors, I would be asking senior management to take a different approach. Google has always been known as a plain page.
