Now it's Google vs Microsoft. Who else can Google take on? They're taking on the biggest software company and area already trying to thwart Yahoo.
Google is reportedly working on a downloadable file and text software search tool, code-named Puffin, that will attack a weak spot in Windows — which runs on more than 90 percent of the world's personal computers — by making it easier for users to find information stored on their desktops.
Microsoft, now building its own search engine to challenge Google's lead, is said to be working on a way to include search technology in Longhorn, the next version of Windows slated for launch in 2006.

1. Luis, you ain't kidding! :-)
This is likely to be the heavyweight bout of the titans. First, Google has been trading blows with everyone from Yahoo and MSN (in search) to Overture and FindWhat (in PPC) to Yahoo and Hotmail (in web-mail). And they're landing some effective blows with deadly precision.
Meanwhile, Microsoft (the John Gotti of the web/desktop/etc. landscape) has been knocking off its competitors for years (Netscape, WebTV, etc.).
I love the Google folks. I love the MS folks.
By the way, I have a friend who watches his traffic stats like a hawk and said he's been seeing some spiders and bots from Microsoft for months. Wonder if they've been compiling a Google-killing index...
The next 12 months are sure to be as (if not more) interesting as the past 12 months.
