The Google Appliance Goes Global

Google's hardware-based intranet search solution, the Google Appliance, is finally ready for European rollout. Available in the U.S. for a couple of years, European corporations may soon become enterprise customers. The business model involves a purchase-license system wherein the company buys the box and licenses its brains in two-year  increments. Varying capacities are available, depending on the size of the company's collection of internal documents. ONe issue mentioned in this BBC article is—surprise!—security, Google's relentless albatross these days. The Google Appliance is a rack-mounted box holding a complete index of a company's files. Hand me a screwdriver, would you?
