Showing far more initiative and hipness
than Google is in the development of Google Toolbar, Yahoo! has released a
Firefox beta of the Yahoo! Toolbar. It installs in a snap and has worked
beautifully for me today. why is Google dragging its feet over porting its Toolbar to Firefox, especially considering
its close relationship with Firefox? (Firefox 1.0 comes with Google as the default home page.)
Yahoo! Toolbar for Firefox … Where is Google?

(Page 1)2. Firefox already has many extensions to complement itself, but IE doesn't have such things, so there were so many toolbars for IE, but few for Firefox. If Google decide to make a toolbar for Firefox, it must have some feature which other extensions don't have, or I don't think Google need to do that.

3. Maybe Google doesn't feel a need to create a Googlebar for Firefox because there has been a Googlebar available for Mozilla Suite & Firefox for SINCE LATE 2002. See http://googlebar.mozdev.org/
It's not developed by Google, but by a third-party. However, it provides all of the features of Google's IE Googlebar, with the exception of PageRank. The authors of the Mozilla/Firefox Googlebar avoided PageRank because of intellectual property concerns (http://googlebar.mozdev.org/pagerank.html)
However, there is a PageRank-enabled version of Firefox Googlebar created by another third-party: http://www.prgooglebar.org/
Google probably doesn't see a pressing need to release its own Firefox Googlebar, since the community re-created it long ago.

6. Unless Google brings out an official Firefox toolbar with PageRank et al. (and let's face it, PageRank is about the only reason most of us still use IE), the substitutes developed at Mozilla and elsewhere are just not going to cut it. Sure, there are PR status checkers but as mentioned on http://googlebar.mozdev.org/pagerank.html that doesn't beat the real thing. Hope Google does something about it soon...
7. There is a page rank checker for firefox
