New AdSense Features

google ad linksGoogle has added new ad unit designs and payment mtethods to AdSense. the new design is called Ad Links, and is a small list of four or five topical links. Each link leads to a page with more explicit AdWords ads. I have not seen Ad Links in action, so I don't know what that faux-landing page looks like. with Ad Links, a clickthrough is not a (paid) clickthrough. Here is how Google explains it in the Ad Links addition to the AdSense FAQ: "AdSense publishers are paid for clicks on the ads that are linked from Ad Links topics, but not for clicks on the initial topics themselves. The ads on the linked page are pay-per-click Google ads similar to those shown in regular AdSense ad units."Google AdSense has introduced a new ad unit format, and new payment routines. The new ad style is called AdLinks (shown at right), and features four or five single-line links that lead to relevant ads." It's disconcerting to think of a click as leading to more ads, not to a landing page. It's even more disconcerting to hink about not getting paid when a user clicks on a link at your site. The advantage of Ad Links is their small footprint on the page and non-ad appearance, but the extra layer of clickthrough density is a severe, possibly insurmountable, disadvantage. I'm looking forward to experimenting with these, and to hearing about the experiments of big-traffic Webmasters.

Google is also now making AdSense payments in several local currencies, and is experimenting with a beta electronic transfer system for monthly payments.
