The Chinese government has acquiesced to Google's long-standing desire to operate a search portal in that country. Google presents competition to Baidu, the leading Chinese search engine, but the relationship between the two companies, and the two countries, is more synergistic than merely dog-eat-dog. Baidu hopes to launch an American IPO on Nasdaq later this year, and Google strategically took a minority ownership position in Baidu last year. Google in China … those masses of clickthroughs ... it's a dreamy vision.
