Thanks to reader Willmonwah who sent a link to a logo, apparently hosted on a Google server, indicating a possible name change from Gmail to Google mail. Or, it could be an old logo that was discarded when the company decided on Gmail. Gmail is the better name.

3. As Philipp Lenssen says in his blog, "only in Germany is Gmail now called Google Mail (...) This is due to Daniel Giersch possessing the rights to 'G-Mail' in Germany. According to Google, the emails '...@gmail.com' will stay the same in any case."

5. They seem to be renaming it all over the shop. Some of the title fields for pages have been changed, and the newly found image is sat where the gmail one used to be...
I am in Europe, but the UK. Perhaps the german decision has triggered a global re-branding.....

6. Yahoo! has yahoomail.com and their email service is using Yahoo.com. It is better for Google to use Google.com as their email service.
