Thanks to reader Ben for exploring global cities in Google Maps and sending a list of high-resolution
metropoli:
Rome
Paris
Amsterdam
Tokyo —> Including Maps!!
Berlin
Moscow
Helsinki
Beijing
Madrid
Cape Town, South Africa
Athens
Sydney
Baghdad
Mexico City
Sao Paulo, Brazil
Cairo (Pyramids!)
The Maps and Hybrid views don't work in most cities. I couldn't get "cairo, egypt" to work as a search term, and had
to know where the city was to find it manually—likewise with the Giza pyramids.
Here is a link to a good shot of the Pyramids in Google maps; you can zoom in one more level. By the way, the
resolution of the Pyramids in Google Earth is quite good; you can zoom down below 1,000 feet (if you've got a good
graphics card and monitor) to get a good sense of the eroded stone.

3. Interesting, I was going to write that Sydney wasn't in hi-res because it wasn't a few weeks back but now I check and it is: looks like Google is updating their imagery

5. I wish Prague was completely hi-res. Only 1/4 is, and its not the best parts of the city.

1. Yeah, it's strange that obvious and large cities can't be found by searching in Google Earth. I was wondering if I was searching wrong.
