The deal is this: Google is supposed to obfuscate the details of the White House roof in its satellite imagery. That imagery is displayed in Google Earth and in Google Maps, but updates don't necessarily hit both services at the sasme time. Recent image updates to Google Earth show the roof in full detail, as captured here by Ryan Hemelaar. In Maps, though, the roof remains erased, as you can see here.
