Gmail's New "Send As" Feature

Thanks to InsideGoogle for pointing to Gmail's new "Send As" feature, with which the Gmail interface can be used to send mail as if from another account. Responses to mail sent this way go to the other account by default, but you can also specify Gmail (or yet another account) as the recipient of responses. Once you add another address to your Settings, Gmail's From: field becomes a drop-down menu showing both (or all) "Send As" addresses, so you can choose the originating address on a mail-by-mail basis. Smartly, Google verifies all added "Send As" addresses in an attempt to curb outgoing spam.

UPDATE: One comment below reports poor results when mail sent with this feature is viewed in Outlook. Mail looks fine in Thunderbird; the sender is changed and there is no mention of Gmail anywhere. However, in Yahoo! Mail, the DomainKeys spam detection system kicks in with this message: "Yahoo! DomainKays has confimed that this message was sent by gmail.com." It does not divulge the specific Gmail address.
