The rumored partnership of Microsoft and AOL could impact Google's marketshare, according to James Altucher at TheStreet.com. Altucher notes that Google currently powers AOL Search, in a licensing deal set to expire within a year. Shifting that business to Microsoft's MSN Search division would save expenses for AOL while boosting search share for Microsoft. Google currently owns roughly 36 percent of search queries, to Yahoo!'s 30 percent and MSN's 15 percent. Altucher cannot estimate the exact amount of damage to Google of a Microsoft/AOL alliance, but he asserts that it would level the playing field.

1. Google just needs some competition. And they llovve the competition.
