Search company Intellext is positioning its Watson 2.0 desktop search program
as an alternative to Google Sidebar. Actually, it is better regarded as a unique product. Watson looks and acts like a
sidebar, but the crucial difference from Google's Desktop/Sidebar coupling is that Watson does not build an index, and
does not send user information to Intellext. Watson's purpose is to examine what you're doing and present relevant
information from your computer, your corporate intranet, and the Web. Whatever is going on in the screen's active
window is subject to the Watson treatment. Intriguingly, a Blogs tab offers relevant blog results—which could be the
killer feature.
Watson 2.0 is a subscription product; $99/year or $10/month.
