For the technically inclined, O'Reilly has published the code to several Google hacks, taken by the book of that title. Scroll down to the Advanced Web section; some of the so-called hacks before that (such as "Browse the Google Directory") resemble hacks about as much as a hand-knit sweater. A few examples of available code: Scraping blog results out of a Google Web search; weighting one keyword in a string; summarize results by top-level domain.
