Exclusive: Rock Band Unplugged Track List

Google Classified style ads appear in Chicago Sun-Times newspaper

We knew Google was dropping ads in magazines such as PC Magazine and Maximum PC, but the Chicago Sun-Times has just released information on a small-scale experiment to run classified ads in the pages of the Chicago Sun-Times.

The Google Chicago Sun-Times deal allows for Google to display classified style ads in unsold space that would normally run Chicago Sun-Times branded house ads.

Now - in total Google style, of course these ads have to be related, and textually relevant to the content on the printed page. And this is just what Google has done. In this instance, the Ads by Google unit is located in the sports section, with ads relating to ticket brokers, and Chicago Bears merchandise.

Is this the beginning of Google Newsprint? We will have to wait and see. But it does seem like a viable thing to do for Newspapers who have some extra space left for unsold ads. There are no words yet as to a percentage cut based on clicks to the websites, and if there are any tracking mechanisms in place. In the PC Magazine and Maximum PC ads, printed 1-800 numbers got routed through Google to the appropriate companies for tracking purposes.
