Google and Earthlink team up to create a WiFi San Francisco
Google will run the slower free network at speeds from 256 - 384 kbps. Earthlink will offer service at 1mbps.
Google and Earthlink will both be responsible for building and operating the effort, and will share the costs incurred.

(Page 1)2. What are DSL and Cable ISP doing to respond to the unwiring of San Francisco? They are losing a huge cash cow and cannot be happy about it. They still have a higher bandwidth niche, but ubiquitous wireless access will be driving down the costs of accessing the Internet. If they attempt to make a law against it, we should be prepared to oppose it.
I like to imagine new applications that will be enabled by having Internet access outdoors. You could go for a walk and have multimedia history lessons on your hand held computer. How about house hunting? You could see many more properties and get much more information in a single afternoon.

1. Roll on Google!
I heard this is being planned within London, too.
Now, if only someone would do this in central Edinburgh!
(Telewest anyone?)
