Google Voice Search

Google has just received a patent for a voice interface for a search engine. Otherwise known as Google Voice Search.

Google Voice Search is a system that will provide search results from a voice search query. The Google system will receive a voice search query from a user, the system will construct a weighted boolean query using the recognition hypotheses, then turning out search results.

Google currently has a demo that is offline at the moment, but here isi the process one would go through to do a voice search:
  • Call a specified Google automated voice search line system.
  • When prompted, say the search keywords you are interested in
  • Click a link that Google provides to display your voice search results
  • If you have more queries’, say them and a new window with the results will be updated with the new results.

There are some discussions on Google groups about individual’s insights on the new voice search tool. The dates from the discussions here are from 2003. I did not realize this tool was in development since then?
